About me

Linda Moerland is a passionate organizer, writer, and culture worker born in 1985 in the Netherlands to a Javanese father and Dutch mother. At the intersection of history and activism, her work explores the wisdom of remembrance and the power of embodiment — tracing the long shadows cast by colonial violence into present times.

Linda is a seasoned activist and organizer having worked in grassroots movements focusing on climate justice as well as anticolonial grassroots organizations. As one of the first activists joining Extinction Rebellion NL in 2019, she coordinated the movement's first large-scale civil disobedience action, helped build key organizational structures from the ground up and trained thousands of activists in the principles and practices of nonviolent direct action. She has also led multiple political campaigns for socialist and anticolonial grassroots movements, directing strategy across the digital and public space. Her commitment to furthering collective consciousness and political maturity is also reflected in the leadership roles held at Mama Cash (as CFO and strategic advisor) and Free Press Unlimited.

In the Dutch press, Linda writes about colonial history and its echoes in contemporary Dutch foreign policy — work that invites readers to reckon with the nature of the state, the workings of power, and the necessity of public participation. She also holds board and advisory positions in the arts sector, dedicated to supporting POC artists and POC-led foundations.

Currently, Linda is developing a documentary about Indonesia and the imperialist powers that conspired against it - a project that brings together her Javanese roots, her passion for historical justice, and her belief that unearthing buried histories is an act of resistance in itself.
